What to Watch This Week: The Impossible, The Martian, Little House on the Prairie, and More

Have you seen all the new releases in the theater this week and want to catch up on your streaming services? With Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey absolutely dominating everyone’s attention, we want to recommend some movies and TV shows that will cure that epic hangover.

Do you want to see where Tom Holland’s emotional acting started? Check out The Impossible (2012).

A disaster blockbuster that follows a family vacation that goes wrong. American family vacationing in Thailand gets struck by the Indian Ocean Tsunami and its aftermath. The movie is based on a true story, and it covers the chilling reality of a natural disaster. The Impossible had over 70 nominations, including Oscars, and 28 wins.

If you are just a little bit sensitive, just like us, then prepare a tissue box.

In awe of Matt Damon’s role and want to see more of him on your screen? Watch The Martian (2015)

A space Sci-Fi movie that is all about bringing Matt Damon home, again. This time, they forgot him on Mars, and he has approximately one million obstacles to overcome in order to survive on an uninhabitable planet, including 70s disco music. It was a 2015 phenomenon film that had over 199 nominations, with seven of them being at the Oscars and 41 wins across various departments and actors.

If you are also a fan of Jessica Chastain and Sebastian Stan in space suits, then you will love this film.

Inspired to get back into your historian era? Transport to late 19th-century America with Little House on the Prairie (2026)

A newly released Netflix period drama show takes a spin on a classic Laura Ingalls Wilder novel. Follow a family of 4 as they embark on a dangerous journey of change, discovery, and relocation through the Western America.

The trailer alone had us reaching for our prairie bonnets. Whether it earns the original's legacy is another question entirely. However, everyone has their take on remakes, so come to your own conclusion and don’t forget to enjoy the process.

Need something to fear? The Last House (2026) has you covered

A new Netflix original movie is releasing on August 7, 2026. The Last House, action/horror is for lovers of apocalypses and a little mystery. It follows a family stuck shut inside their house while unexplainable things happen outside. Not only do they have to figure out how to survive inside with a teen and a pre-teen, but also figure out their food and water supply. Seems like they are not the only ones in this predicament, but can they survive whatever is lurking outside?

We have been waiting for this movie since the trailer was released this spring; it sounds right up our alley.

Western action drama The Isolate Thief combines history and women outsmarting cowardly men. The story focuses on a young girl trying to survive and outsmart a group of outlaws who are ready for revenge in the dead of brutal winter.
