The Verity Trailer Is Here, and Anne Hathaway Is Terrifying

Colleen Hoover's most disturbing novel is finally getting its moment on screen, and the first official trailer just dropped. Verity releases in theaters October 2, 2026 — and if the trailer is anything to go by, we are in for a psychological thriller that will not let you sleep.

The premise: Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer played by Dakota Johnson, is hired by Jeremy Crawford — Josh Hartnett — to finish the remaining books in his wife Verity's wildly successful series. Verity, played by Anne Hathaway, is terminally ill and unable to complete the work herself. Lowen moves into the Crawford home to access Verity's notes and manuscripts. What she finds instead changes everything.

The trailer gives us exactly enough — a woman who may not be as ill as she appears, a husband who is not who Lowen thinks he is, and a manuscript that contains truths nobody was supposed to find. The tone is dark, the pacing is unsettling, and Anne Hathaway looks genuinely terrifying in a way we did not know we needed from her.

The ensemble alone makes this one of the most anticipated thrillers of the year. Dakota Johnson has quietly been building one of the most interesting filmographies working — and Josh Hartnett's recent resurgence means every project he attaches himself to arrives with serious weight.
